A startling announcement by Tata vice chairman Ravi Kant this last week in the Indian publication The Hindu Business Line stated that their Indica Vista “is likely to be launched in the UK this September-October”.
The timing of this launch will not only take the wind out of Nissan’s sails but it will also allow Tata to take advantage of the UK government grants to purchasers of EV’s, which at present will only apply to a small number of electric vehicles due to the limited government finance available.
Tata first showed their Vista EV to the public at the 2009 Geneva Motor Show where it claimed the battery powered car would have a range of 200km and would attain 60km/hour in under 10 seconds.
Tata have strong representation in Scandinavia where infrastructure support for EV’s is already set up unlike in India where it is practically non-existent therefore their EV’s will not be for sale in their home market.
