Revealed today are the first pictures of the new Renault Wind coupe roadster for 2 people (no +2 here) which will have to compete against the established Peugeot 207CC, Nissan Micra C+C and Mitsubishi’s CZC. The official unveiling of this new Renault will be at the Geneva motor show next month.
This small Renault, loosely based on the Twingo will only be 3830 mm in length will have as its main claim to fame a hinge system metal retractable roof which opens in only 12 seconds. Unlike other cars with retractable roofs this hinge system allows the Wind to retain its full 270 litres boot capacity.
Due on sale in the UK in June the Wind will offer 2 petrol versions, the larger at 133bhp from a 1.6 litre unit and a 100bhp from a 1.2 litre engine. The more powerful engine should make 0-60mph in 11secs while both engines should offer at least 40mpg.
The Wind is not cheap, the 1.2’s opening basic price is £17000 so expect to pay over that to get the extras on offer, however it could turn out to be quite a fun car for those who can afford it.
