Back in the late 1990’s the introduction of the roadside “Gatsos” camera was hailed as the best way to cut speeding motorists and reduce accidents. In the last dozen or so years these cameras have resulted in many thousands of speeding drivers receiving fines and even bans for breaking speed limits.

Another blow to the poor UK motorist comes today with the news that there has been an ”unprecedented rise” in second hand car values this year.

Late last year second hand prices were at a low level but since early this year there has been a steady month-by- month rise which has pushed prices up by as much as 30%.

Chelsea F.C’s billionaire owner Roman Abramovich has got himself a new super-toy. His new floating gin palace at 557 feet long is 1.5 times the length of Chelsea’ football pitch, has 2 swimming pools, 2 helipads and its own missile system plus a James Bond style escape submarine.

All car owners, and potential car owners, are being warned of the dangers of buying second hand cars without carrying out a thorough check of the vehicle and its documents prior to purchase.

You may not think that it could happen to you, but beware, 75,000 cars disappear from the records from within the UK every year.

BMW has just revealed more details of it’s new eco sports concept car which looks likely to be one of the highlights of the Frankfurt Motor Show in Germany next month.

The new eco car is similar in size to the 3 series but with a lower roofline and incorporates a lightweight body construction, new aerodynamics and hybrid drive technology.

Today we are going to focus on two objects which in the past have caused, in one case havoc, and in the other derision.

At The Car Hub we gave out our first warning via a “tweet” on June 2nd. that there were existing factors which indicated that in all areas of Europe there would be a shortage of cars for hire this summer and possibly beyond.

There are now dire warnings that the situation could be so bad as to leave holidaymakers arriving at their airports without cars to continue to their destinations.

As motorists we are now, sadly, having to come to terms with the fact that oil companies are unwilling to lower the cost of fuel at the pumps to anything lower than £1 per litre regardless of the price of a barrel of oil.

That means that we motorists have to keep a keen eye on what our cars mpg figures are in order to budget the weekly cost of motoring.
