Essex motorists are to be the first to face a police crackdown on “illegal” number plates.
At the instigation of the DVLA, police will be rolling out a check in all areas of the country to check on false number plates, if caught motorists can be fined £1000.
Police are keen to get these false number plated cars off the roads as the check time on a false number plated car takes longer than normal checks and could lead to further crimes involving these suspect motors.
It will also mean that motorists who have “doctored” their number plates by spacing out letters or numbers, inserting bolts as dots, graphics or just changing the font, any of these could lead to a £60 fine.
Police these days have the benefit of Automatic Number Plate Recognition which can flag up illegal plates; so beware, Big Brother will really be looking out for you.
