How Many Arfur Daley’s Are Back In Business?

Between January and June this year the Office of Fair Trading received more than 38,000 complaints relating to faults on second hand cars bought from traders.
Complaints about second hand cars have now overtaken those relating to mobile phones and televisions.
Taking into account that most faults come to light within one month of purchase they then come within the usual 3 months warranty issued by dealers.
The trade in second hand cars is a huge market with a turnover of £24 billion p.a., as each fault is estimated at a cost of £425 this all comes to a total corrective work bill of £85 million.
The question that arises is, do dealers check out these second hand cars before re-selling or do they just place these below quality motors on the market at a higher than market price?
Buyer beware still applies, so don’t be one of those 30% who fail to get their car faults repaired by these dodgy dealers.
