Regular readers will know that The Car Hub team are not avid fans of the current scrappage scheme in the UK. Figures showing participants of the scheme in September have given government ministers something to crow about because of the increase in sales which keeps the new car market alive.
To get the existing car scrappage scheme moving the government put into the pot £300 million and said when that is all taken up the scheme will end. It seems pretty certain now that the scheme has been successful but with the money due to run out possibly at the end of next month (Oct.) there is some pressure being put on the government to refill the money pot. Should they do it? Why provide support for only the car industry? It may sound a bit controversial to demand the closure of the scrappage scheme but have a think about it.
